Could you correct my paragraph, please? #1 (permalink) Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:55 am   Could you correct my paragraph, please?

My name is Laila. I'm 30 years old, single. I live in Jeddah with my parents. I have 7 sisters and 3 brothers.

I graduated from the university in 2003. My major is Chemistry. In 2009 I got Mater's degree in Organic Chemistry. I have been working in King Abdul-Aziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for 7 years. It's my first job, I haven't worked anywhere before.

I like cooking, laminating the internet and watching talk shows. I'm interested in knowing at least few informations about everything I see, hear or read about.

In my family we have several values like:
•We should have supper all together at 9 o'clock.
•Women have to wear the Islamic headscarf.
•Anyone have some errands should arranges a schedule with one of my brother (driving in not allowed for women).
•It's prevented to sleep out of home.
•It's prevented to eat frequently in restaurants

Thank you Luschen.
I have a question:
Is (forbidden) better than (prevented)? or the word (prevented) can't be used in this meaning?

Here is my second paragraph

Importance of English Language
Considering of contemporary life, English language became the main language all over the world. It's the language of sciences, technologies, computing, business, tourism, etc. On the other hand, it's necessary to get a good job, speak with people who can't speak our language and for entertainment.
According to my work, it's required to teach students and apply a Master's and Doctoral's degree. So, it's very important to speak English fluently and automatically.

Here, prevented is a verb, while forbidden is a adjective, so forbidden is correct. Sometimes you can use prevented in the passive tense, but you really need a subject - like:

"Sally is prevented from sleeping outside the home". But this still sounds a little weird.

To use prevented you really need a subject that does the preventing:

"My customs prevent me from sleeping outside the home."
"The government prevents me from sleeping outside the home."

Thank you Luschen. I admired your explanation. I wonder if English is your native language. Would you tell me something about you and your city: Nashvile? I'm interested in improve my skills in English. My university forced me to apply Doctoral program in America or Europe. I'm thinking in America.

Best Regards,
Laila
