The following graph shows how many people in the EU speak English. Funnily enough, nobody in the UK seems to speak English :-)

Hi Alan,

Have you heard the story about Angela Merkel talking with Vladimir Putin about the language situation in Europe? Rumor has it that Putin offered cheap oil and gas supply to Germany if Merkel signs a contract that will force all EU nations to adopt Russian as their first language. The new law will be enforced by 2015 and they will start by introducing Russian as the official language at all EU authorities and government organizations. So the chart we are looking at will soon start looking completely different. We should celebrate and cherish the English language in Europe while it lasts.
