will be collecting or will correct ? #1 (permalink) Tue Feb 07, 2012 9:31 am   will be collecting or will correct ?

Hi

I was trying the TOEIC practice test, and found a question like this:

As usual, we will ______ donations for the Children's Home at the party. Please bring a toy, game, or clothes for
7 Christmas presents for needy children.

The answer is "be collecting".

I think it can also be :we will "collect".

My question is, which is more appropriate and why ?

'be collecting' is mnore appropriate because the use of 'as usual' indicates that this is a repeat process, ongoing.

Hi,

'Will collect' is a simple indication of what you intend to do. Using 'will be collecting' describes a picture of what is going to happen in the future as usually happens this time of year.

Hi Beeesneees and Alan

Thank you for replies !

"will collect" implies an intention, and "will be collecting" is more like a scheduled, repetitive process.
Thanks for clarifying.
