I dont understand all meanings of "against".
Let me know if the following sentence is gramatically correct and have the meaning.

Patrik didn't succed to defeat the world title against Hans.

I only wanted to point out that I believe your sentence should read:

Patrik did not succeed IN DEFENDING his world title _____ Hans.
