The sentence: " She has a splitting headache, a runny nose and a sore throat, that is why she can't sit an exam now." -is correct?

How about:

She has a splitting headache, a runny nose, and a sore throat, so she cannot sit the exam now. (P.S. I think that Americans prefer "to take the exam.")
