Hello friends,

I would like to know the difference between the following sentences,

Did this happened yesterday ?

or

Did this happen yesterday ?

Which one is right and what is the grammatical structure or rule behind the sentences. If anyone could explain the grammar part, it would be really helpful,

Thanks,
Dinesh

Only the second one is correct: "Did this happen yesterday?"

When using "did" like this in a question or statement, we use did with the base form of the verb for any subject: http://www.englishclub.com/grammar/verb-tenses_past_s.htm

Dineshkumar:

This is one of the biggest mistakes made by learners. But I have good news: it is EASY to NEVER make that mistake again for the rest of your life!

Simply memorize this: After "do," "does," and "did," ALWAYS (100% always) use the base form of the verb. That is, the form of the verb that you look for in a list of words in the dictionary.

Therefore:

She does not WORK.
Does she WORK?
She did not WORK.
Did she WORK?

Isn't that easy?!
