Hello !

I've heard about "love at first sight" but I found a sentense like:

Jack fell in love with Anne at second sight. The first time he saw her he didn't know she was rich.

I looked up the dictioary and it said "the secod sight" is some sort of extrasensory perception, but I'm still not sure if the above sentense sounds natural. Shouldn't it be "love at first sight" ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you are correct in that "second sight" means extrasensory perception. But this passage is playing with the term "love at first sight" for a humorous effect. Jack did not fall in "love at first sight", because when he first saw Anne, he did not know that she was rich. Then he found out she was rich, so when he saw her again, it was "love at second sight". In other words, he fell in love with her because of her money.

Hi Luschen

All right !
I could not get the humor.
Humor is always the last thing I can get in learning English.

Thank you so much

You are welcome. I agree that humor is often hard to understand in other languages because it so often depends on idioms.
