Meaning of a sentence #1 (permalink) Fri Feb 10, 2012 21:19 pm   Meaning of a sentence

Hello,

I was reading an article on english-test.net. Here, I read a sentence and facing some difficulty in understanding the word in bold.

"I just can't imagine that there is any information we can't by virtue this medium."

Here is the link for this article.

Something has gone wrong with this sentence. It doesn't make sense as written.

I did follow the link, just to check that the sentence had been copied correctly. What else are you asking me to check?

It may have originally been intended to say something like:

"I just can't imagine that there is any information we can't share/exchange/etc. by virtue of this medium."

I have looked at this sentence and I agree with Dozy that something is wrong with it.
I think first we could correct it by fill in as follows:
"I just can't imagine that there is any information we can't access by virtue of this medium." Now we could understand phrase in question "by virtue of" as by help of or by means of.
I hope it helps in understanding this sentence.
