Which are correct:
1-Yesterday there couldn't be any misunderstanding between them. Today there might.
2-Yesterday this door couldn't be opened. Today it can.
3-Yesterday it couldn't rain. There wasn't a single cloud in the sky. Today it might.
4-Yesterday, my car could not break down. Today it could.
(Yesterday, it was impossible that it should break down. Today it possible that it should break down)

Gratefully,
Navi.

PS. I asked a similar question yesterday but this is a bit confusing for me.

Hi Navi,

I'm worried about 3 and 4 because of the implication that 'it' in 3 and 'my car' in 4 are both animate objects that have the power to choose.

1 and 2 are all right.
