In this set of material , the reading passage presents some advantages of the fire suppression as an advancement of the wilderness management. However , the professor disputes these arguments.
To begin with , the professor point out that fires help forests to keep a long term stability. Because fires reduce the number of mature plants and make new plants and native plant competitive and grow with more light. This casts doubt on the point in the reading passage that the fire suppression improve the health of trees.
The professor also claim that the increase of the deer population, sometimes, do harm to plants who are closed to the ground . because they eat the leaves of these trees. Fires help the forest in controlling the numbers of the animals . This would seem to challenge the argument in the reading passage that the fire suppression is necessary to protect animal's population.
The professor finishes by asserting that , even though the opinion in the reading passage is correct that burning decreases the overall amount of nutrients in the soil, the burning can also help release more types of nutrients . The more various nutrients do well to the forest development.
