Hi Rob,

I think the point Alan and Jamie are trying to make here is this: Most of the people using this forum are here to learn English. If we start mixing languages by throwing in bits and pieces of German and other languages into our sentences, our users will end up more confused than they were before they came here.

Hi HamburgEnglish,

I have checked the word "oder" in a dictionary. It is a name of a river in central Europe running throughly several countries over there to the black sea. Could you please explain what its meaning used in your sentence with a plain English language.

many thanks,

Minh

Hi Mihn

HamburgEnglish was apparently mixing German and English because he lives in Germany.

The German word "oder" means "or" in English. Adding the word "oder" to the end of a German sentence is basically the equivalent of adding a tag question to the end of an English sentence. Thus, if you replaced "oder" with the English tag question "do I", HamburgEnglish's sentence would be entirely in English.
