| Wouldn't you look in a dictionary that translates from your own language into English? |

I am conscious I will never know enough words to properly express myself in English. Also I am conscious I can't speak fluently if I do not speak every day but once in a three months for just a minute. Even though, in my opinion, to surrender isn't a good option. |

Well, that will come once you gain familiarity with the new word. But if you simply do not know the English word to express what you mean, then what can you do other than look it up in a dictionary (or ask someone who knows)? I feel I may be missing the point of your question.
(In fact, though I glibly say "look it up in a dictionary", this is notoriously problematic when translating from your native language into a foreign language. It is very easy to produce unnatural or even unintelligible language that way. In practice, you gain understanding of the correct use of a word over time, through repeated exposure to the usage of native speakers.) |

I have one more problem. I've started to forget words in my mother tongue. I can't recall some special words when I need them. |

My brother studied in an English institute. He asked his teacher "when can we speak English?". The answer was "when you forget your mother tongue"!!!

Hi Laila, you don't need to forget your native language in order to learn English. On the contrary: When you learn English you also learn more about your mother tongue. As for your question, the answer is rather simple: If you don't know a certain word in English, don't use it. Use words you do know. If you feel that your active vocabulary is too small, increase your passive vocabulary. In other words: If you want to improve your speaking skills, you need to LISTEN more. If you want to improve your writing skills, you need READ more.

FIRST, JUST DON'T AFRAID OF------------there is no any harmful carnivorous in front of you!
English grammar derived from Anglo s exon,Latin or Greek language or grammar. That hundred thousands word roots are -Prefix or Suffix by them.
Like, Prefixes bi= means, two,- biennial every two years, bicycle, etc. aqua= agri= means, field,- agriculture trans= ambi=
or Suffixes
able= al= icious= osis means, condition (noun suffix), hypnosis condition of induced sleep.
These ways if you know just 100 roots(of course, you have to know how to use them!), it will unlock 1,00000 words!
Do you think it is just a joke? No. it is true.
Our Maximum English teachers even don't know them or know poorly(like me, particularly in Bangladesh!), It is one of the main causes why students are not well in English.(Please see at SAT-1, suggestion book Barron's,or Word power by Norman Lewis, etc.) when you don't know a particular word meaning during an examination class, it will help you most.
Like, ambi= means both, ambiguous, or carni= now you can go, you are free man! GO!!! _________________ Quazi,(46) a writer, thinker & humanist

Hi Minhajquazi,
I like your explanation. I know some of them in general besides more which we use in Chemistry - I'm Chemist - but unfortunately I've never been tought that I can use it to remember or expect some new words which I don't know before. On the other hand, I Need it more in the TOEFL exam which I have to pass. So, would tell me if keeping a list of these prefixes and suffixes will be helpful for me to memorize and use them. |
