"telephone" or "the telephone"

I would like to know which of the following is grammatically correct? Or maybe they are same.

Life would be quieter without telephone.
OR
Life would be quieter without THE telephone.

Hi Tom

Your first sentence is not correct. But you could say:
"Life would be quieter without telephones."

Your second sentence is correct: "Life would be quieter without the telephone."
