The articles before proper nouns don't start with a capital letter unless they are the first word in a sentence or in the title of a book, movie, etc.
So, normally in the middle of a sentence, you would write, "the Taj Mahal".
The word "principal" is not a proper noun, and it would not start with a capital letter unless it is used as a title right before a person's name. For example:
Fred is the principal of Tom Landy Middle School. Attending the meeting was Principal Fred Patel. |
