Both of your sentences are correct. Yet if I was going to tell the news myself, I would use the second sentence. And I might add: "OK, listen to this!". The verb 'listen to' in the first sentence gives the idea of listening to the news on the radio or on TV. I would say that if I was going to put on the radio/TV for someone to hear some good news.
Yes, you can listen to a sound or a bell ringing. It means that you are paying attention in order to hear it. But you usually hear rather than listen to a bell ringing, unless it's a long, musical ring or you are listening to Michael Oldfield's Tubular Bells :) . |
