Hi Mba! Hi Pamela!
Glad to see you both here. Nice to know that you still remember this (my favourite :)) thread. You're welcome, you know.
Hey Dark, I’m here and I’m still a fresher ;) really enjoying an atmosphere of the forum. :) But for the last ten days I have been busy writing 'My Own Grammar Book' – I asked several dozens of questions in English Vocabulary, Grammar and Idioms and have learnt a lot. Hopefully. :)
I read your recent posts in ‘Babylon’ topic :) and wish your every success with downloading and using this useful dictionary.
My last news: yesterday I received the notification with the first of my end-June-exams’ result. It’s (critical) Reading.
------ … Level 1 Total possible marks: 40 Incorrect Answers: 15, 18 (Wow! That means I supposed both my mistakes right, just after the exam.) Pass mark: 27 Marks awarded: 38 Result: Pass The above candidate has been successful (Hi, Michael! :) ) in the examination. … -------
So now I have a validation that I can read. :) At least, at the Intermediate level :)
Wish you all a nice Friday and pleasant weekends, Tamara _________________ It’s impossible to learn swimming without entering the water… |

Hello world! :) I love you!
Thank you all for you warmth. It’s really a great pleasure for me to read all those your coloured gratters (I specially use this colloquial synonym for 'congratulations', as one time I mistakenly e-mailed graters instead of it – what a shame!) :)
I can only say again, the Internet is a very special and strange space that, in addition to being a source of information, gets us also an (additional :)) sense of feeling and emotions. Virtual space… just letters!… but you feel an actual sincere affection in response, don’t… we? :) Sometimes it’s so amazing.
Amy, regarding your question, - I’ll first quote a fragment of my own post from this thread and then add a comment.

Reading test was fairly easy and I've managed to finish it 15 minutes before the time is over. And now I discover just a few my mistakes :) /wrong answers - among 40 small (close test) questions on eight (page-size) test texts from different area of everyday life. (One was 'How does your garden grow' - a clear advice on growing plants :) :) )
In particular, some words I didn’t know yet - by today's 10 a.m. :) For example, timber. The tricky text about a strong construction tempted me to think that 'timber' should be metal rather than wooden. Now I know more :) |
First day of exam http://www.english-test.net/forum/ftopic9027-90.html#26826
So, the first my great mistake was that I had watched not enough comics (as Michael - quite right - noted right away). Otherwise I certainly knew ‘timber’ very well, even though not ever being a window-frame (sash) maker. :)
The second one (sorry, I can’t remember now its exact wording) was one of those ‘comprehensive reading’ tests that are often asked in negative form, whereas all positive facts and tiny attributive details are carefully dispersed through the whole text. :) For example, ‘which scheme ((1), (2), (3), (4)) is NOT accessible to overseas students?’ – and the text contains only positive statements and support descriptions.
In addition, questions of such kind often use tricky synonyms and antonyms. I suspect that, being religiously examined, I could give a wrong answer even in my first language. :)
Generally, I expected to get three 'wrong answers', but, as a mater of fact, luckily guessed the third one right :)
Anyway, as I said before, Reading is my strongest point, so I realistically expected other results not being so impressive :)

Hi Michael!
I haven't yet injured/shocked :) by the stunning news of my possible long vocation abroad. Not now...
I’ve just spent a day guiding two my friends (who have been visiting the UK for the first time) around London’s most famous sites. Zone 1, I mean... :)
Now I'm ready again to post, non-stop :)
Thanks for your care :) Tamara _________________ It’s impossible to learn swimming without entering the water… |

Now that’s getting better. Since last Saturday I have been in Heathrow three times… having a quite good chance to observe the dynamics… :)
Fortunately this August none of my friends wanted to fly the UK - the US, turnaround ….

P.S.
Hmm. You consider me being complete? Flawless? Oooh… Thanks for the flowers. :) :D _________________ It’s impossible to learn swimming without entering the water… |

Hi,
Strange thing was, and we were delighted, we flew into London/Luton last Friday from Berlin and it was a breeze.

Hi Alan!
You're very lucky... having come back exactly before the alert, on Friday...
But I wasn't (at least, this time)... and definitely need to have at least a small break-and-rest after all that delays and uncertainty with flights...
P.S.
Is 'a brezze' can also have the meaning 'a quarrel'? :) _________________ It’s impossible to learn swimming without entering the water… |
