Frankenstein or Frankenstein's creation

Please tell me if Frankenstein was the name of the scientist or its creation in Mary Shelley's novel. I am asking this question because my friend has a lot of scars on his body and his mother lovingly calls him " my Frankenstein" .

Usually, when you say "Frankenstein", native speakers understand you as talking about the monster. If you want to prevent this, you have to say "Dr. Frankenstein" and "Frankenstein's monster".
