Opportunity vs. possibility #1 (permalink) Wed Jun 07, 2006 10:04 am   Opportunity vs. possibility

Can someone please explain the difference of these two to me? "Practical English Usage" examples were no use.

The sentence giving me problems is the following:

An electromyographic unit provides to
[...] guarantee a high standard of safety also when used on children, as well as ease of handling and the ???opportunity??? for sterilisation with disinfectant liquids.

Thank you to anybody who can help.

Jessica,
The difference between opportunity and possibility is the following:
1)possibility means the fact that something might happen or be true and is used with of or that
Ex.There is a possibility that I might go to London to study for 2 years.

2)opportunity suggests it is possible for you to do something because the circumstances are good or lucky at the time
Ex. I had the opportunity to spend 2 years in London while I was a student.
