Only when describing circumstances or situations the word gl?cklich can be translated as lucky. When we are talking about people gl?cklich has only one meaning: to be happy.

When speaking English, Germans use the word lucky incorrectly extremely often.:!: :!:

You could have written your sentence both ways.
But the meanings are slightly different. :D
