I'm sorry to bother you again with another question but I still need your help.
Would you please explain the meaning of the phrases and words that I have put in bold?
This is the beginning of an article published in The Independent a couple of weeks ago.
LLOYDS TSB, the high street bank trying to kick-start a new run of profit growth, yesterday finally managed to offload the majority of its Brazilian banking operations for ?490m to HSBC as part of its plan to focus on core areas such as lending and savings in the U.K.
As always, many, many thanks for your kind help.
Regards, Paolo |
Hi,
Some quick definitions: High Street bank - a popular bank you can find in any town centre. Kick start - make a new beginning to help business. It comes from the method used to start a motorbike. Offload - to get rid of. 'Core' - important/central.
