During my punctuation lessons sometime ago I came across/ learnt a point that a comma cannot be used between two complete sentence. Now I am a bit curious because your sentences seem complete, at least to me. Could you please guide me about it?Your sentences:

I'm fine thanks. The use of the comma here I intended as a break in what is supposed to be a conversation piece but what you learnt is fine as regards continuous prose.
