It's no use. What's the meaning of this sentense. Why we can't use "It's no point".

Thank you.

These phrases often mean the same thing:
It's no use.
There's no point.

Hello,

Is it ok to say "There's no use in doing something"? I think it's the only combination that hasn't been covered in this thread.

Thank you!

I suspect it would be found acceptable by the majority of English speakers, though I would use one of the following:

There's no use doing that. (no 'in')
There's no point (in) doing that. (with or without the 'in')

Hi OTS,

In a way 'point' is more precise than 'use' and that's why there is a preference for 'point in', which wouldn't naturally follow after 'use'.

Hi, Alan
Does "It is no use" have the same meaning with "it is useless" ?

Hi,

Yes.

It's no use trying to persuade him to stop smoking.

It's useless trying to persuade him to stop smoking.

I have thought that when you use phrase 'It's no use' you need to write after this phrase a gerund. In this case it is´hearing´. This is the reason why I used the noun ´idea´. I thought it meant that a person did not have any idea why he could not hear another person.

Nelly

My first ever wrong answer for this week seems so confusing no point from no use.
