TOEFL essay sample

Topic

You have enough money to purchase either a house or a business. Which would you choose to buy? Give specific reasons to explain your choice.

In my country, there is a popular old saying that 3 most important things a man has to do in his life are building a house, marrying a wife and having a business. Therefore, both looking for a house and starting a business are necessary things. But in my case, I prefer purchasing a house because of some underlying arguments.

Firstly, my argument base on the opinion that a house can be consider as the one's possession, and a business is just only the method one can follow to have the possession. It is very clear to me that we work hard to have a high salary, to success in contracts or some thing like that. In other words, we work to get money, and we consequently spend money to have a possession, for example, a house. So why we don't purchase a house immediately when we can?

Secondly, I prefer having a happy life with my wife and my daughter. A private house helps us in this. My wife can avoid unnecessary tussles with my mother and especially with my sister-in-law (I hate these feminine tussles). My daughter can have a private room as she ever dreamed.

Lastly, but not least important, a business would not be successful if it doesn't have a good preparation and a good base. A house can be the office of our business; it can be the deposit when we look for renting bank money for our business.

Shortly, we could begin a good business when we have a house. Purchasing a house will be my first choice when I have enough money.

Hi gianglt,

I have made some suggestions:
Quote:
In my country, there is a popular old saying that THE THREE 3 most important things a man has to do in his life are building/BUILD a house, marrying/MARRY a wife and having/SET UP a business. Therefore, both looking for a house and starting a business are necessary things. But in my case, I WOULD prefer TO PURCHASE (purchasing) a house because of some underlying arguments.

Firstly, my argument baseD on the opinion that a house can be considerED as (the) one's possession, and a business is just only the method one can follow to have the possession. It is very clear to me that we work hard to have/GET a high salary, to success/SUCCEED in contracts or some thing/SOMETHING like that. In other words, we work to get money, and we consequently spend money to have a possession/TO OWN SOMETHING, for example, a house. So why we don't/DON'T WE purchase a house immediately when/AS SOON AS WE CAN we can?

Secondly, I WOULD PREFER TO HAVE prefer having a happy life with my wife and my daughter. A private house helps us in this. My wife can avoid unnecessary tussles with my mother and especially with my sister-in-law (I hate these feminine tussles). My daughter can have a private room as SHE HAS ALWAYS DREAMED ABOUTshe ever dreamed.

Lastly, but not least important, a business would not be successful if it IS NOT WELL PREPARED AND DOES NOT HAVE A GOOD FOUNDATION doesn't have a good preparation and a good base. A house can be the office of our business; it can be the deposit when we look for renting bank money/BORROWING MONEY FROM THE BANK for our business.

Shortly/IN SHORT we could begin a good business when we have a house. Purchasing a house will be my first choice when I have enough money.

TOEFL essay sample: Purchase either a house or a business... #3 (permalink) Thu Feb 07, 2008 15:19 pm   TOEFL essay sample: Purchase either a house or a business...

Here is my essay on this topic, I'll be really glad to get any comment.

When having some money some people would rather spend them on buying a house, others would spend them on purchasing a business. Both options have advantages and it would be hard to choose where to invest your money.
Buying a house gives you a place to live; moreover, you get a home where you will probably live with your family (or future family). A house is something that would be bought by a person who spend a lot of time home or by someone who prefers to be with his children and wife/husband. Another reason for people to purchase a home is that they probably just do not need to found a business or already did it; however establishing a company may also have advantages.
When you purchase a business you have to be aware of the fact that it could not be successful, but taking risks can change our lives in many good aspects. A prospering company can bring to its owner a great amount of income. This gives to you and your children a good life. Money is not the most important thing, but after all you cannot survive in this rough world without it.
If I had to choose weather to buy a house or set a business, I would take the risk and invest my savings in a company. Running a business is a constant source of money and I could save some for a house. This way I could get both things as in the same time I will make my life better.

If i have enough money to buy home or business. I will prefer business. As where I live, I can easily start a good business. Why business? Yes why I would start
Business. Well first of all i already live in house which I own. So it’s better to invest into the business then buying another home. Business will provide me
Long term security of living. Besides new house is useless As i don’t have big family. New home will required lot of maintainance.yes in business it ask hard work
and my time but it will give me more profits at the end. I can earn money with my business and i will generate enough money to live better life. So I can buy luxury.
So for me its better to invest into the business then home.

please do comment even its wrost..
