Hi teacher! it seemes to me that you've copied my own experience.; I usualy listeen to english TV every day for a few minutes , but the probleme in this case is that you can only imrpove your listening ; I think the best way is to combine the practice and the istening; This is my chalange because in my office no one speak english, I can now understand more than I speak , for this reason I invite users to come in forum to change more , You notice that my english is not good because in my mind I automacly translate in french , please tell us more bout some connecting letters. all regads |

Dear Mr Torsten The first I am very appreciate for your English lessons. This is very effective for me. you know until now the grammer is very simple for me and refresh my grammer but listening is good for me. I answer the question : I live in iran # How much time per week do you spend watching TV? I watch English language movies 5 days a week almost 2 hours. # How much time per week do you spend in your car? this time is almost 6 hours a week because my office near my house. # How much time do you spend reading a newspaper or magazine? I read news in english 5 days a week and 20 minutes. # How many emails do you write per day/week? not more It depends on my conditions but about 2-3 a day and 5 day a week. # How much time per week do you spend on the Internet? I spent 5 day a week and about 6 hours a day. I PRACTICE ENGLISH , LISTEN TO BBC STORIES , READ TH ARTICLES AND SO ON. # How much time do you spend eating breakfast? I eat my breakfast 15 minutes a day except friday that last 30 minutes because is holiday . # How often do you go to the cinema? not more because I watch the best movies at home. I am interested in to learn english quickly and am trying to read , watch , listen more but about your opinion that change your habit it is very good idea but I am not able to do it perfect . please write me soon rita salimi |

| Hi Torsten, I agree with most of your points. English is my major in university and alos my second language. I am deeply convinced that surrounded by a native-English environment is quite vital. The biggest problem with my English is listening, which cause much difficulties for me to communicate with foreigners fluently. I have tried to listen to VOA&BBC every evening ( you know, I have to work on th day), but it does not work! I do not what's wrong with my listening. Much confused. Can you help me? |

Hi, everybody! I can't but join your conversation about how one can learn and improve his/her language skills. As for me each of you says right things. A person needs a teacher to explain grammar and other rules, but to speak any foreign language you need practise first of all. But to speak correctly you also need native-speaker surrounding because every language is developing with the time and new words appear along with new meanings to the existing ones. But I should also admit that some genius people can learn foreign language by watching TV and reading books. I know one little girl who learned German just by watching programmes and movies in German. I learned Polish this way, but I'm not genius because this language is quite close to my native (Russian) and besides I can't write in Polish, I don't know the spelling and grammar rules. As for English I've been studying it at school and institute, but I feel real lack of communication with native speakers. And that's why I'm here with you :) |
