Description of recidivism (noun)
habitual or chronic relapse of criminal or antisocial offenses

Samples of recidivism
Even after intense therapy the parolee experienced several episodes of recidivism, and was eventually sent back to prison.



   
Description of implement (noun)
something used in a given activity; piece of equipment

Samples of implement
The rack is an implement of torture.



   
Description of connoisseur (noun)
expert; authority (usually refers to a wine or food expert)

Samples of connoisseur
They allowed her to choose the wine for dinner since she was the connoisseur.



   
Description of cache (noun)
stockpile; store; heap; hiding place for goods

Samples of cache
The town kept a cache of salt on hand to melt winter's snow off the roads.
Extra food is kept in the cache under the pantry.
The cache for his jewelry was hidden under the bed.



   
Description of rigor (noun)
severity; harshness; strict accuracy

Samples of rigor
She criticized the planning board's vote with rigor.



   
Description of jargon (noun)
incoherent speech; specialized vocabulary in certain fields

Samples of jargon
The conversation was nothing but jargon, but then the speakers were nothing but cartoon characters who specialize in an oddly bracing form of gibberish.
The engineers' jargon is indecipherable to a layperson.



   
Description of soliloquy (noun)
talk one has with oneself (esp. on stage)

Samples of soliloquy
Imagine T.S. Eliot's poem The Waste Land performed on stage as a kind of soliloquy!
The soliloquy by the man standing alone on the cliff sent a message of regret.



   
Description of libertine (noun)
person who indulges his desires without restraint; lecherous person

Samples of libertine
For the libertine, missing his child's birthday was not as significant as missing a football game.



   
Description of nemesis (noun)
person who inflicts just punishment; retribution; rival

Samples of nemesis
The criminal was killed by his nemesis, the brother of the man he murdered.
The football team plays its nemesis on Saturday.



   
Description of authoritarian (noun)
dictator; tyrant; despot

Samples of authoritarian
The authoritarian made all of the rules but did none of the work.
