 | 2004 December 31 2004 has been a very good year. Alan Townend has created more than 300 unique English tests that contain all the knowledge and experiences he has gathered during his long ESL career. Since Slava linked all of Alan's test questions to our forum allowing anybody to request an explanation for one of the 3000+ sentences, our user have been posting several messages a day asking for more information on grammar or vocabulary items. Given the fact that England that is a one hour time difference between England and Germany, Alan must get up pretty early in the morning because he usually is the first to answer the questions in the forum. Take this post get fired. Alan submitted his message exactly minutes earlier than me.
Also, in 2004 english-test.net has acquired such interesting and engaging people like Sunny English for Beginners who is running a subforum for beginners and Samrat from India Who thought this Christmas have bad ending for South Asians? who always wants to share his thoughts about a variety of topics. His latest post, for example, is about the flood in Bangladesh. I'm sure that in 2005 our forum is going to grow into an active e-community where people from all around the world will meet to exchange experiences, seek advice and gain new knowledge.
Speaking of knowledge, yesterday I received an audio book I had ordered at Amazon. It's the Millenium 2000 Gold Recording of The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale. He originially created and produced this fascinating work in 1956 and it has been sold to millions of people ever since. If you want to know what the recording is all about you have to purchase a copy of it. To give you an idea of the contents of the audio CD I'm going to quote Earl Nightingale. In his introduction to The Strangest Secret he says the following:
"I'd like to tell you about the Strangest Secret in the world. Albert Schweizer, the great doctor and Nobel Prize winner, was being interviewed in London, and a reporter asked him, "Doctor, what's wrong with men today?" The great doctor was silent for a moment and then he said, "Men simply don't think." And it's about this I want to talk with you.
| | 2004 December 29 Jens Ruehrup, an Admission Counselor at the University of Phoenix called us last week after we had requested more information on distance Bachelor and MBA programs. Representing 150,000 students, and more than 90 countries represented Phoenix University is the world's largest online education facility and english-test.net is going to collaborate with them in 2005. For example, if you English is not your mother tongue, you have to take the OEPT (Online English Proficiency Test) and score at least 107 or you can take the TOEFL. | | 2004 December 22 According to Napoleon Hill power is the concentration of energy. This is one of the principles we are going to put into practice 2005: focussing on the production of interactive English tests. You will soon be able to take vocabulary tests that contain the words you need to know if you are preparing for the TOEIC, TOEFL, GRE, SAT and even such specific exams as the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). As of now you can improve your vocabulary with these GMAT tests
| | 2004 December 15 Elsa from Argentina sent us the following email after she read the latest issue of Alan's newsletter and I think it's an excellent opening for the last ESL-Blog page in 2005.
«Hi Alan and team!

The end of this year is near.
