Introduction
Dear User,

As our site grows every day we want to share some information with you on the way we are operating the project. We call this section «Business Blog» as it is similar to doing a log book where data is recorded in a chronological order. «Blogging» is gaining popularity with more and more people picking up the habit of publishing their experiences and thoughts on the Internet. Our Blog covers various topics — from TOEFL, TOEIC, MBA, GMAT, ESL/EFL test preperation to cultural traditions and current political events.
There will also be some Internet marketing terminology and if you have any questions regarding the information simply let us know.

The Business Blog is written by Torsten Daerr and edited by Alan Townend.

2005 — January 21
Yesterday english-test.net was visited more than 3400 times — so far that's a record. We are expecting this number to reach 10.000 by the end of 2005. Why are we so confident? Well, if you are reading this text you know how the Internet works. People like you are looking for information and you first address to turn to is Google. Now, suppose you want to know the meaning of the word «deleterious». What would you do? Right, you could search Google for the meaning of «deleterous» and on the first two results are our pages. Let's do another test. Go to Google and type in «meaning of itinerary». All these words are part of the GMAT verbal section and you can improve your GMAT vocabulary by taking our vocabulary tests. In addition we will provide you with information on how to choose the right university for your graduate or undergraduate study program. For example, if you live in Europe and want to make a career in an EU country you should enrol in a European university to make sure your degree will be recognized by your future employer. When it comes to accreditation of MBA degrees in Europe the AMBA is the leading body. AMBA stands for «Association of MBAs» and it's a London based organization that was founded in 1967 so when you select a European university where you want to obtain your MBA degree you should check the school's reputation and ask whether it has been accredited by the AMBA.
However, if you decide to study in the USA you should familiarize yourself with the US accreditation system, which is different from the one in Europe. More on that soon here in the blog.

At this point more than 3000 people access and use english-test.net every day and a lot them are seeking information and advice on how to write GMAT essays or how to solve problems like this topic GMAT reading comprehension. The market for online MBA programs and distance education is growing fast and you can help yourself to your piece of this cake. Sites like mbaapplicant.com by John Evans provide high-quality services but they are lacking in one essential ingredient to success: Exposure. Only a minute fraction of all potential MBA applicants will ever find out about John's website. It's very hard if not impossible to offer MBA admission support and maintain an online business at the same time. MbAapplicant.com is an excellent resource for MBA candidates but the website and the service is run by one person who simply cannot keep up with the all the tasks. On April 29 of last year you might have read an overview of Executive Vocabulary — a tool you can increase your word power and communication skills with. A few days ago Greg Ragland, the creator of Executive Vocabulary told me that he wants to use my testimonial on his website to which I of course agreed. In addition I suggested holding an interview with Greg because because many users of english-test.net want to know how to expand their vocabulary fast and effectively. It is a fact that your professional as well as your personal success largely depends on your command of the English language no matter what your mother tongue happens to be. That's why Greg Ragland and his team have compiled a list of words that are frequently used by top executives and interestingly enough a lot of those «power words» — as Greg calls them — often appear in the GMAT, TOEFL or TOEIC test. So, if you listen to Executive Vocabulary for 5 to 10 minutes several times a week, your chances of scoring high marks on the GMAT verbal section improve substantially. In addition to the spelling and meaning of GMAT, TOEFL or TOEIC words you will also learn how to pronounce and use them in various contexts. If you have any questions on this learning technique you can contact us any time here: Increase your GMAT score with Executive Vocabulary.

One of the topics we will be concentrating on in 2005 is GMAT preparation and MBA admissions. There are a growing number of people wanting to increase their career chances and their earning capacity by completing an undergraduate or graduate program. Of course it makes sense to study and gain practical knowledge that you can apply in your future jobs. That's why a lot of college graduates as well as business executives are looking for information on how to apply for a bachelor or MBA degree program. As a first step we have set up a subforum called GMAT-MBA Community. Yesterday one of our members asked how to improve their reading comprehension skills and I'm sure there are many GMAT candidates who want to know the answer to this question. The most important ingredient to increasing your reading speed and enhancing your comprehension is clearly a keen interest in the subject you are reading about. This may seem simple enough but a lot of people tend to ignore this fact. So, if you prepare for the GMAT Verbal Section you should always make sure that the texts you are reading are interesting and contain valuable information which is related to the major you want to study later at university. That way you can kill two birds with one stone and use your time most effectively.
