Introduction
Dear User,

As our site grows every day we want to share some information with you on the way we are operating the project. We call this section «Business Blog» as it is similar to doing a log book where data is recorded in a chronological order. «Blogging» is gaining popularity with more and more people picking up the habit of publishing their experiences and thoughts on the Internet. Our Blog covers various topics — from TOEFL, TOEIC, MBA, GMAT, ESL/EFL test preperation to cultural traditions and current political events.
There will also be some Internet marketing terminology and if you have any questions regarding the information simply let us know.

The Business Blog is written by Torsten Daerr and edited by Alan Townend.

Now you can read an interview with Alex, one of the founding members of Flocabulary. A few weeks ago there was this post FLOCABULARY improved my kid's score! on our forum and that's how I found out about the project. It seems that Flocabulary's popularity is on the rise: A check of Overture's search keyword tool revealed that a substantial number of people look for the term Flocabulary on the Internet. In the interview Alex says that at this point they are promoting their brand mainly by the word-of-method and through Internet advertising. If you listen to the free sample music files available on their website you will understand why Flocabulary is becoming so popular.

According to the BBC there are at least 8 million people in the UK who want to learn a second language but only 1.6 million are doing so. Interestingly enough, in the US the number of foreign language students has been rising slowly with Italian being one of the fastest-growing choices. So, it's a myth that native speakers of English are not keen on learning languages. If your mother tongue is English you might have a lot of advantages over others in many aspects of life. However, learning a second language could increase your career opportunities as well as your income. Think about it: There are many reasons why our world is becoming more and more globalized, that means, the number of internationally operating companies is on the rise. A lot of your success in business will depend on your ability to communicate with people who have a different cultural or ethnical background. That's why the language learning industry in countries like the US or the UK is growing. One of the commercial success stories in this area is the Pimsleur product suite produced and marketed by Simon and Schuster. The Pimsleur brand is particularly popular in the US where millions of the language tapes are sold every year. In the next few months we are going to research the language learning market in the US and other countries. This means we will add information on such questions like why learn a second language, which language to choose and how to learn languages more effectively. Of course we are also going to review language learning methods such as the Callan Method, the Pimsleur Approach and language learning products such as the Rosetta Stone software suite or programs like TellMeMore.

What is the main difference between spoken and written communication? When you talk to somebody the words you utter are gone for ever the moment you stop speaking. Maybe what you have said will be stored in the memory of the person you were talking to but the chances are they will sooner or later forget large chunks of the your utterances. It's different when you publish something on a website because this media enables you to share your ideas with a virtually unlimited number of people and you can create something that might even outlive you. I sometimes wonder what the Internet will be like in a few years. How many people will run their personal blogs or websites? Will Google still be around in 2011? As for us, English-test.net will have been online for 2 years and now we know exactly what we want to have accomplished by the end of 2005. One of our next projects is a subsite that contains information about Rosetta Stone — a language learning product suite. The structure of those pages will be similar to our Pimsleur section and it's our goal to create new resourcesrelated to language learning as this is one of the most important areas in many people's lives.
