Introduction
Dear User,

As our site grows every day we want to share some information with you on the way we are operating the project. We call this section «Business Blog» as it is similar to doing a log book where data is recorded in a chronological order. «Blogging» is gaining popularity with more and more people picking up the habit of publishing their experiences and thoughts on the Internet. Our Blog covers various topics — from TOEFL, TOEIC, MBA, GMAT, ESL/EFL test preperation to cultural traditions and current political events.
There will also be some Internet marketing terminology and if you have any questions regarding the information simply let us know.

The Business Blog is written by Torsten Daerr and edited by Alan Townend.

2006 — October 04
In our October newsletter Alan Townend is giving you an insight into life on an MV. Yes, it's "MV" not "MTV". If you don't know what an "MV" is, you have to read Alan's latest story. This time you can test your knowledge of the English language in a very unique way: If upon reading the story a smile comes across your face, your understanding of British humour is pretty good. In case you don't find anything funny you either might want to learn some new words or change your attitude towards life. Meanwhile, we are preparing to meet our 10.000th newsletter subscribers. Of course we don't know who it will be and where they will be from but we do know that they will sign up before this year ends because we are soon going to replace all our Babylon Pro banners with links to our newsletter. In a few days up to 50 new readers will subscribe to our publication every day and there are quite a few days left in 2006. We are even considering launching a Google AdWords campaign, after all, english-test.net is the only website that offers a free email newsletter with high quality language essays. All the other lists are a collection of advertisements mixed with some recycled news items.

2006 — September 27
Earlier this year I made a prediction saying that our newsletter would have more than 10.000 subscribers by the end of 2007. Now, what do you think are the chances of this forecast coming true? Well, as of now there are 9630 readers of the essays Alan writes every month and he will hit the 10.000 mark before Christmas. I think that we have already reached a level at which subscribers forward the newsletter to their friends, co-workers and family members because they want them to benefit from Alan Townend's publications too. So, what is so special about this newsletter? Well, for starters it is always written with a good portion of British humour. Maybe you have to read Alan's essays several times to detect the subtle punch lines he is making. And that's exactly what you are invited to do: Enjoy the witty texts he creates and absorb new vocabulary easily. Print off his newsletters and show them to anyone who is interested in the English language. You will make new friends instantly, just try it out by joining the newsletter today.

2006 — August 30
What has happened since the last blog entry in July? Well, I was in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine and you can read a short account of my stay there. In addition we have added a number of new tests for you to practice and improve your English. Also, Alan has created a number of newsletter issues, the latest of which will be sent out later this week. If you sign up for our newsletter now, you will be joining a community of more than 9,100 readers from around the world. As you can see, you are one of many people who use English as a second language and you can share your experiences and thoughts with them. For example, Alan lately has started a discussion on how to search for phrases and words on the web. The forum thread is called Why does everyone quote Google? As it turned out, there are quite a few online resources in addition to Google for you to use if you are looking for a particular expression or idiom.

2006 — July 12
We are currently working on two major projects: One is called 30/30/30 and it's a new language learning system designed for you to get into the habit of using English on a daily basis. 30/30/30 stand for the following three elements:

  • you have to listen to English audio sources for at least 30 minutes per day
  • you have to answer at least 30 English grammar and vocabulary questions every day
  • you have to do these activities for at least 30 consecutive days

You will find more details in this project description

Our second project enables you to download PDF worksheets, ESL tests, short stories and useful materials. For more information you can take a look at the ESL PDF worksheets and lesson plans
