Dear Friend,

Did you know that 16 people out of 100 of the world's population speak Chinese (Mandarin),

9 speak English
8 speak Hindi or Urdu
6 speak Russian
6 speak Spanish
4 speak Arabic as their mother tongue
and 34!! speak English as a SECOND LANGUAGE.

So, in total, 43 out of 100 people speak English worldwide and this number is growing by the hour. But what exactly does “to speak English as a second language” mean? It means you DON’T consider English a foreign language but speak it fluently. If you watch CNN you will notice that all official leaders of any country speak English freely. Take the Middle East: Palestinians and Israelis might be of different creeds and cultures but they have at least one thing in common: when they want to voice their opinions and negotiate standpoints, they use English as a means of communication I sometimes think that both parties are not only fighting a war with guns and bombs but also a battle of words.

So, instead of killing each other they should get together and practise their English by exchanging viewpoints. If they have managed to find a common language why can’t they find enough common ground to finally realize a very simple and ancient truth: People are the same wherever on this planet they might live. Most differences between them are created and maintained artificially and serve only the purpose of a minority.

What do you think? Let’s talk about it next Wednesday.

Have a peaceful weekend.
Regards
Torsten Daerr
