the outer layer of cells in a blastocyst

The trophoblast becomes the chorion and then the placenta in man.
Trophoblast is physiologically shed into the maternal circulation, whereas, in early pregnancy, NFEs (nucleated fetal erythrocytes) are the most common type of nucleated fetal cell in the fetal circulation.
