Hey, this is Caroline Binda and I was born in Brazil, where I lived for 19 years. I went to a language school there called ICBEU (Instituto Cultural Brasil-Estados Unidos) for 5 years, from which I graduated in December of 2001. That same year I also graduated from high school and went to college to study engineering. While in college in Brazil I worked as a volunteer for humanitarian organizations as an interpreter and translator for the Americans. One year later I took a Teacher Training Course provided by ICBEU from which I got a certificate that grants me permission to teach English in Brazilian language schools. A few months later I ventured to the United States and have been living here for the past 2 years. At the present I''m working as a volunteer in an organization called FIRE serving the community of the greater Charlotte area in North Carolina. It is my goal for this coming spring to get TESOL certified (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) so that I can teach English in any foreign country.
I have had a little over 10 years of experience with the English language and I''m still studying it. Besides working as volunteer for US organizations I have also done interpretation for the Cirque du Soleil. My mother language is Portuguese and I can understand some Spanish because of the similarities of both languages.
My favorite thing about studying English is its different idioms and accents. They make the language all the more interesting and fun to learn. Being here in the US has been a great learning experience for that. I have been in so many different life situations and have met so many different people from so many different places (Africa, Italy, Holland, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Faroe Islands, etc) that I have learned a lot about different cultures and some of the difficulties one might anticipate when coming to this country.
So now when I teach English I am able to explain certain things I didn''t understand myself as an English student because now I have the cultural reference to back me up.
I hope to be of great assistance to all English learners that come to this web site and I hope to do it in an enjoyable way. Please feel free to contact me when you have any questions and I will answer them to the best of my abilities.
