None of us are who we were,

We lose our teeth, we lose our hair.

Our sight goes dim, our joints all ache,

Every day we slowly wake

To another day without any chores

And so we venture out of doors.

To supermarkets with bulging shelves

We wish we could indulge ourselves.

But times are hard

Money's scarce.

You have no need to check your purse.

You know damed well, what lies within

Just enough to buy a tin

Of beans or spaghetti, that's your choice.

You want to scream, and raise your voice.

But there's no point

Good times have flown,

And so you wander back alone

Back to the flat so cold and bare

There really is no comfort there.

But there you go, to relive the past.

Your family's gone, you are the last.

You sit alone, forlorn and blue

Gazing through a misty hue,

The times you had

The fun, the joys.

The photo's of young girls and boys.

Where are they now, alone like you?

Sitting there alone and blue.

Kitos.

Hi Dear Kitos,
Thank you for your stories and also this impressing poem. Most elderly are lonely and nostalgically grieve the past. It's unpleasant to become physically and mentally weak, but as Shakespeare says, " nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so", I believe they can be optimistic and make their best to enjoy their present time.
Best wishes,
Fariba

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
Dear Kitos! How are you :)
What a wonderful peace of art,I really can't describe what I feel right now!
I always have this feelings when I fell towards such masterpieces!
You always talk about matters I think about, before you have talked about death now you are talking about growing old and how it feels and this is one of the reasons which make me think of death so as not not feel the aging's feelings but it differs from a person to another and how everybody thinks of it and as Fariba mentioned the Shakespearean quote ,"Nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so"
I love your writings so please cheer us with your fantastic writings :)

Good morning.
Thank you Ladies for your very kind comments.
It makes an old guy like me very happy to have two beautiful fans.
Yes, old age is painful to say the least.
To have the young girls no longer returning your smiles in an inviting manner, simply recognising you as an elderly man, and thinking,"I bet he looked nice when he was young!"
We all have to accept the inevitable "March of Time" and deal with it in our own way.
Life's been good to me, but even I cannot hide from "The Grim Reaper" for much longer.
No more marathons for me.
No more staying underwater for four or five minutes.
No more football.
No more staying out until 3am. (Happy days!)
No more fancy suits, shoes and ties.
Today comfort comes first, and to hell with the rest.

I'll keep on writing for you girls until I no longer feel the energy to do so. My mind is still full of stories and poems... I only hope I am given long enough to put them down on paper.

Regards, Kitos.

Good evening
It's really weird as words sometimes can not express the beauty of other words :) and we are thankful for pleasing us with such piece of art which we couldn't control our happiness and admiration when we read it :)
I like your description "The Grim Reaper"
I want to say something, you have listed a list of "no more" which you no longer care about or you quit these things for a reason but you have other things to do and it makes you happy while doing it such as "writing these interesting poems and stories"
you also still have the energy to do something although you have been forced to leave others and this is the nature of life :) but as long as you feel rest so nothing else matter :)

I felt happy when you said that you will keep on writing which indicates the kind nature of yourself..I thank you for these gentle words and for pleasing us with writings ..

Be blessed ,Kitos :)
