Have to vs. must? #76 (permalink) Sat Jan 24, 2015 23:04 pm   Have to vs. must?

Hi Kati,

My goodness this has dragged on and on.

Let's just say - 'Have to' is a compulsion from outside and 'must' is a compulsion from inside.

This sentence can show the difference (I hope) -

I really must stop smoking because my doctor says I have to if I want to stop killing myself.
