I want to improve my English. Could someone please help me learn English. I am on 'Function in English' I want to finish this book. friends, please help me

UNIT 1

Exercise 1 = You are at an airport information desk. you want to ask about an arrival.
Example : Is flight BH 106 on time?
(a) Can you tell me .......... please ?
(b) D'you happen to know ............?

In other situation : People and you are not sure who has the information

(c) Could anyone tell me ..........?
(d) I'd like to know, please ...........?

Exercise 2 you've been chatting to a friendly fellow-passenger on a plane

Example : Can we get duty-free cigarettes on this flight, d'you?

(e) (Happen to) know ..................?
(f) (Got) any idea ..............?
(g) Any clue ...............?

If you want to learn, then you need to work out the answers for yourself. You won't understand very much if you just ask someone else for answers. What do you think are the correct responses?

There was a typing error in question (g)

Exercise 3 : You are visiting a company in Britain for the first time. You have an appointment with Mr Brown. you have just arrived at the reception desk.

(a) I wonder if you could tell me where .................. (Response=where Mr Brown's office is)
(b) I hope you don't mind my asking, but.............?(Response=where Mr Brown's office is)

In other situations : when you are addressing several people. and you are not sure who has the information.

(a) I wonder if someone could tell me.............(Response= where the nearest bank is)

Use of 'all' is unusual there and doesn't sound right. This is natural:

It's not about what you do, it's about what you don't.

It isn't strictly grammatical, as it is missing a final 'do'. In the form without adding 'do' to the end, it is a humorous play on words, It means 'Your inaction has more of a long term effect than your action'.
