Incorrect tense. B would have to be
If we had left home earlier... in order to be correct. _________________ "Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened."

Hello, I say to myself that B is also correct. This is my analysis:
If we left home earlier = we didn't leave home earlier we wouldn't have missed the first part of the play = we have missed the first part of the play
So => Because we didn't leave home earlier, we have missed the first part of the play.
Why can't B work? B is acceptable.
Thank you. |

If we'd/ we had left home earlier... is the only option with the second phrase, set in a time past.
'If we left home earlier...' works with future phrases such as '... we could have a meal before the play starts. _________________ "Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened."
